This is how the painting looks at the minute. Another full day on this and it may get finished. There are a number of areas which need sorting out, some scraping back to do and redrawing, some of the values need changing and then I should be able to say "it's finished."

I've put down the Market Square Huddersfield for a while and made a start on this second view from the studio window. This is a 40"x 40" oil on canvas not board as is my usual practice, so I need to take care not to overload the canvas too much.

The view from the back window of the studio is pretty good, a high view-point of the car park and then across over the rooftops to the hills in the distance. This will be the beginnings of a painting I have in mind. However I may not limit myself to using just this drawing to work from I do have others. I hope you will follow my work in progress ::))

This is the view from the Exchange Mill where I have my studio. I have drawn this in thin oil paint ready to make a start 'blocking in' tomorrow. This is a canvas size 40" x 40" a change from my normal support which is board.

This is a small acrylic about 16 x 20 inches. This view is from what I call the back of the studio. I shall be painting another view from the studio window but it will be from the other side of the studio.

I have been working on this painting quite a bit, plus doing other things. It's coming along fine but still needs a lot of work. I have put it down now for a short time and will return to it later while I make a start on another which is another version of a view from my studio window.

I've been working on this again today and the only problems up to press have been trying to keep it loose and intuitive as I pull the whole thing together. I do intend to keep the fresh look in this painting so I do need to keep working quite quickly.

The painting is a street scene in Huddersfield. A friend gave me an old board he'd been working on but discarded it and gave it to me. I repaired it and now I'm using it for a large oil. this is the first stage of the painting.

This is a small painting in oil pastel of the town hall in Todmorden. The following few images are also small paintings of around Todmorden and some subjects have been painted more than once. I am preparing a number of small paintings for an exhibition at the Water Street Gallery in Todmorden which will be held over the Christmas period. I'm intending to submit 4-5 pieces in the hope that maybe one will be accepted for the show.

This photo of the tree house was taken from the roadside above the hotel. The groundsman wouldn't let us in and so we had to take our photo's from the gates. However you can see the tree house and it looks good.

We found this tree house on the edge of the Loch after discovering it was built by Peter Tudhope and friends. Peter is a Fine Artist Painter and print maker and you can research him on the net. So we hired a small motor boat and set sail to find it. there are a couple of photo's to follow.

I have reworked the painting below because I was not satisfied with the distribution of the reds, blues and oranges they didn't work as a whole and the balance of the colour is all wrong plus the mood of the painting was disturbing which is not what I wanted. This attempt is a big improvement, however, I'm not altogether sure at this moment in time if it all works, in fact it doesn't because I have just seen an area that needs sorting out. I'll be back again once I've sorted things out again.

This little oil study is not too bad, I think a large 3' x 4' will work well. When I do begin the larger painting I shall take the colour down a touch. The frame is simply to square it off, I do this so that I get an idea of how the edges look and also what it will look like when framed.

Well, this is my first colour study. The right hand side is working well but I'm not happy with the left hand side I need to resolve the problems of the colour, shapes of trees and the row of parked cars. Also I'm not sure about the three figures. What I shall do next is a small oil colour study. This acrylic study is 17"x15".

This is a larger version of the original done in black and cream emulsion. I like how its looking at the minute and think it will make something good. The next job is to produce a colour study, I shall be working from a photograph.

I saw this interesting subject the other day while out shopping and couldn't resist getting it down as quickly as possible. I have a large panel which is all primed up and ready for working on. The panel is appox 3'x4' and I felt that I needed a particular subject which would fit this format. I think this subject matter will work well. The next job is to develop this sketch into a larger piece.

I feel that I need to develop a little more on the looseness of my work (paintings) because at times and more often that not, they are looking a little too literal. Work develops as I go along, I don't have any prepared plans or ideas when I begin a piece of sculpture. I normally keep on with the working of the piece in an intuitive manner until a certain piece is added and then at that point it sparks and idea which I follow through.
